I just wanted to let everyone know that I’m still around and layin’ the smack down to flab, but I will probably not get a new post out this week. I do plan on releasing a new podcast and having a few new blog posts soon though, so keep checking back (or you could just subscribe to the RSS feeds)
In the mean time, here are some links to some other fitness stuff I’ve been enjoying lately:
Well folks, today is my 28th birthday, and I have never felt better about getting older.
Just a few facts about this year.
I became a father of two, Hudson was born in November.
I gained 15 pounds this year (sympathy weight from my wife’s pregnancy).
I lost 30 pounds this year (against all sleepless-night odds)
I can now run a 5K (though I haven’t done an official 5K)
But the biggest thing this year has been my change in mindset
I really feel I have broken that weight roller coaster that I have been on. The last six months have been the longest period of sustained weight loss I’ve ever had. I have changed my thought process of weight loss and dieting. I have squashed some bad habits and started some good ones. I have re-started this blog, which has been a big help. And I have found a good support community online (twitter and the Nerd Fitness Forums).
Even though I’m a year older, I feel better than I did ten years ago. I exercise more, I eat better, I’m more content, and I’m not hung over 80% of the time.
I’m really looking forward to what my 28th year of life will bring.
**UPDATE!** As I mentioned earlier this month, I am only asking for healthy presents. Nothing that will distract me from my goals, only help them. So here are the results! Thanks to my wife and the parents.
More pictures are posted over on my wife’s family blog, check them out if you are interested in seeing pictures of my cute kids!
In case you missed it, I had a guest post published on Nerd Fitness this week. It highlights 9 different sports and activities that allow you to be a geek while still getting a good workout in. It was fun! I like interacting with a new audience and Steve over at NF has definitely done a good job building a community up.
Geek Into Shape Podcast
If you are reading this, then you are probably aware that I just launched a podcast. I am really excited to keep working on this project. As a huge podcast nerd, I love the audio medium as a way to spread news, tips, and advice. I hope to deliver some high quality and content-packed bits of information over the next few months.
So subscribe to the podcast feed or check it out on iTunes if you want to get the latest episode direct to your audio listening device.
One thing I am looking to do with this podcast is make it a community effort, so if you have any questions, suggestions, ideas for a segment, or would like to send in a segment of your own, please contact me.
As always, I am working on other more posts for this blog, so stay tuned!
I haven’t posted in a few weeks so I thought I would write a quick update about what’s going on in my world and the world of Geek Into Shape.
I’ve lost my age in weight this year.
January 1st of this year I weighed in at 236 lbs. This was not a good thing.
But no worries!
This motivated me to hit fitness hard again this year, and this year, I found my click. I weighed in at 209.5lbs last week, which means I have lost 26.5 lbs, which also happens to be how old I am, since the beginning of the year. This is about the only time I wish I was 50 years old. This is also the lowest weight I have been in sevenish years. I give myself a whopping boom-shaka-laka.
My birthday, which I share with the American flag, is coming up in a few weeks. I would like to be down to 200 lbs by my birthday. With my current schedule, I don’t know if I will be able to make this goal, but I will sure as hell try.
I have also been thinking about only asking for healthy things for my birthday. I was originally going to get a the Droid Incredible, but I’m not up for a phone upgrade until the end of the year, so my new – healthier – wishlist looks like this:
This is is for the Mrs. *wink wink* *nudge nudge* *say no more* *say no more*
Because you always have to get socks as a gift, and this time, I actually need them.
Geek Into Shape News
So I have been putting some thoughts into new ideas and projects for Geek Into Shape.
I have a few post ideas floating around the ol’ noggin’. I haven’t had as much time to sit down and write these ideas out the last couple of weeks, but I hope to get there soon. So thanks for being patient!
I have also been playing around with some Android development. I really want to make a fun fitness application that incorporates a game aspect (like Farmville/Mafia Wars) and an achievement system to fitness and nutrition. I have a few ideas, but time is the biggest limitation. I do love hacking away at code and learning new systems, so I really hope to free up some more time to work on this.
I am working with an old high school friend to get a couple of fun drawings and graphics for the site. I have been wanting to create a Geek Into Shape logo for a while, and I would love to use some of the drawings she will be doing. I’ll unveil them as soon as I get them. So pumped!
The final update is that I have been working on a top secret Geek into Shape project that I can’t talk about yet… expect an announcement soon though… Ok, it’s a Geek Into Shape podcast and it should be released this weekend. Man, I suck at secrets. More information coming soon!
November was a weight GAIN month for me. I stopped weighing myself sometime early in the month and stopped caring about my weight. It’s amazing how fast things can go to shit. Thanksgiving hit me like a ton of bricks and I fell back into old habits. I’m back to weighing myself daily and making better decisions. Once I realized that I crossed back into the 270′s, I started kicking my own ass. See the damage for yourself.
November Weight Gain
Yup, there it is, a 6 pound weight gain. My goals fromt his month are to just make better decisions and get back below 270. I’ve been dreading reporting this. Knowing that I’m going to have to report this to the world is plenty of motivation to not fall off the wagon completely.
